Hi George,
Just so happens that I used the Tyler mini gyro on a polar bear survey in Alaska just last month. I rented from Jerry Levine in Anchorage. It performed flawlessly in -40 degree conditions in a Hughes 500D with the door off. Powered it from the aircraft. It's such a tiny heli I don't know if anything else would have worked.
Looking forward to using it and all your other products in the future.
I'll look for you at cinegear.
All the best

This was my first time using the mini-gyro - I've used the ATM stabilizer before to some success - but I'd have to say the minigyro is my new preferred system. The ease of setup, the stability and the maneuverability is really superior to anything else I've used or seen in the same size package. For tight, dynamic situations like the ones I work in the minigyro is a perfect solution. I'm really looking forward to using again, especially the next heli shoot I do!
Feel Free to use that. It's genuine. It was totally pleased with how the unit worked.
One thought... I'm going to get a Varizoom controller to use next time. I noticed that the Varizoom lanc control unit I had before (wrong for the camera I was using at the time unfortunately) didn't have large enough of a clamp to fit around the handle. I should be able to modify the Varizoom unit with longer bolts, but it might be something to consider looking at for you guys: A solid, narrower diameter, smooth section at the top of the handle would really make mounting a zoom control a lot easier.
Let me know about the action clips. Looking forward to using the unit again in Feb!

Yes we certainly have
used the Tyler Minigyro and it was brilliant. After researching on the web we
went looking for minigyro in New Zealand and were able to hire one from the
Dolly Shop in Auckland. Used it over three days for three session shooting from
choppers.
We use Canon HDSLR
cameras so the gyro was a great size.
We have one quite raw
video available to view on YouTube. We are working with the footage now. I can
send you the link to that. Also when we have finished the project we did the
aerials for I will send you a link to that as well.
cheers
Mike

We have been doing aerial photography and video since 1973 (we were children then) and we have used various mounts and techniques to acquire solid and smooth motion shots. Sometimes with mixed results. We recently shot a job with an aerial service that used a WesCam system and we felt we were not in full control of the shoot due to some communication issues with the operator of the WesCam during flight.
However, we were very pleased with the results of shooting with Cherokee and the Tyler Minigyro combined with our Panasonic HD camera. This was accomplished after only a brief 15 minute training seminar by Cherokee and Travis prior to lift off. The Tyler Minigyro is, without a dough, the best systems we have ever used in its class.
The Tyler Mount was really easy to operate and we were able to maneuver the unit effortlessly. It was no problem to get the best video vantage point as we were sitting on the deck of the A-star with the doors removed and of course Cherokee was a great help as a skilled pilot.
We believe in the end, our video is very smooth and gives the viewer a slight floating effect which is very realistic as a "being there" vantage point of view. We like this effect a bit better than some of the aerial video hosts that appear to be locked down from a tall tower. In addition, in these tough economic times our clients are still willing to contract with us to do their aerial work and we can still make it affordable to them with high quality results by using the Tyler Minigyro in stead of the more expensive camera mount systems.
Another great feature of the Tyler Minigyro system is the fact that we can use our own camera and we can control all the views we need to satisfy our clients shot list. We also maintain the consistency of the video when we blend the aerials with ground shots.

Just finished using the MiniGyro on a project that involved shooting from helicopters, boats and cars,
The camera was fully rigged Panasonic HDX900. A great piece of kit that is easy to use, set-up and move between locations. I would highly recommend it.

Baja California 2010....
Hi, I
am DoP, Eric Goethals AMC
based in
Mexico and France,
I shoot
aerials for many years now, I want to share those pictures of one of your very
nice piece of equipment;
The Mini
Gyro!
So
versatile, easy to mount, to use and to leave...
I tried
different mountings in the chopper, in the picture below it is hang with
some bungees,
I end up
use it with bungee + the Shock Tube, both, the fact that the camera is
"hanged" it is much less effort during the take by the operator.
We have
some amazing shots!
The
material will be seen in an International exhibition in Shanghai later this year.
This shoot
was in Guerrero Negro, in Baja California Mexico,
April 2010.
Hope you
enjoy and wait for any feed-back.
Thanks
Eric
